St John’s: ToorakBuxton Memorial Hall @ St John’s Toorak Built in 1860, this National Trust-classified Gothic structure is the only Anglican church designed by William Wilkinson Wardell, the Catholic architect of Melbourne’s St Patrick’s Cathedral. Capacity Seated Up to 200 Guests Cocktail 80 – 300 Guests
Crafted from bluestone and sandstone, with spectacular stained glass and mosaic features, St John’s Toorak is surrounded by magnificent gardens at its splendid hilltop site. Melburnians know that St John’s is a very special place for weddings. Adjacent to the church – only a short stroll through its picturesque grounds – is the recently renovated Buxton Memorial Hall. For five decades this wonderfully expansive space has hosted social events of every kind, but it’s as a wedding reception venue that Buxton Hall really shines. Rich in atmosphere and style, Buxton Hall’s classic decor includes wrought-iron pendulum chandeliers, polished floorboards, gossamer-fine fabric draped from the vaulted ceiling, fully equipped theatre stage, and air conditioning. Best of all, its proximity to the church means than guests need not suffer the inconvenience of moving to a separate location for the reception; it’s just across the lawn.
